The term was framed by adjoining nutrient and pharmaceutical and can be defined as a part of food or food which comprises and imparts beneficial and medical benefits and can also be used in management and cure of several diseases. The definition is partially overlapped with the definition that of food supplementation. Both, the nutraceuticals and food supplements claim to possess beneficial effects and attribute to improved health of the individual. However, both have different origins.
